BNP Secures Approval for Reception of Tarique Rahman’s Homecoming

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has officially received approval to host a reception ceremony celebrating the return of its Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman. His arrival from London is scheduled for December 25, 2025.

Approval Granted by Dhaka Divisional Commissioner

On the evening of December 21, Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Sharaf Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury issued the formal permission, communicated through a letter addressed to BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. This development was confirmed by BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan.

In a timely delivery, Zahid Hossain, a representative from the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner’s office, handed the letter to BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan. It was received by central committee member Sattar Patwari.

    Homecoming Details

Tarique Rahman is set to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:45 AM on December 25. His return marks the conclusion of nearly 18 years of exile that began in 2008 when he left for the UK under circumstances surrounding his arrest in 2007 by an army-backed caretaker government.

    Historical Context

Tarique Rahman is the eldest son of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and current Chairperson Khaleda Zia. His long absence from Bangladesh has been a significant topic in the nation’s political landscape. His planned homecoming is anticipated to be a pivotal moment for the BNP, especially as the party prepares for future electoral challenges.

    Importance of the Reception

The reception ceremony is expected to draw considerable attention and participation from party activists and supporters. It signifies not only a personal reunion for Rahman but also a strategic move for the BNP as they aim to consolidate support within the party’s ranks.
